Inverted pyramid/news writing notes and what we have been working on

Hello ELC,

Last day you submitted your first effort at writing the opening paragraph of a news article using The inverted paragraph format. Below are notes to remember when writing for media or for online in this format.

    Remember in a news article:

your audience does not know you, the writer, nor do they know the individuals or groups in your story. So we must, as writers, introduce all the ‘players’ in the story. 

You leave the writer OUT of the story. So we write using third person perspective. 

 Don’t speak directly to the reader in second person. NO ‘YOU NEED TO’.

Give all the info. that fits W5 

Remember to capitalize : Headline each first letter, Proper names (even of companies and days of the week), Start of a sentence.

Today you completed a review/summary of a current event. This is a quiz weight assignment.
