Film as literature study first 3 classes and links

Hello ELC,

Here is what we have been working on and links to the videos.
Please note that the 'Stages of Life' and 'Mini Inquiry' assignment sheets need to be handed in the next two block.

Day 1 we:
  • Participated in a word race to come up with as many emotions/feelings we could think of. (adjectives)
  • Considered which of these words we might/could associate with each stage of life
  • Watched a short film called  'A Single Life' and reflected on how it presents the stages of life (which emotions might the film evoke, which objects act as symbols for each stage, etc.)
If you can, brainstorm ideas of an object that best represents who you are (in this stage of your life) right now. 
 Day 2 we:
·      We reviewed ‘A Single Life’ and took note of possible symbols for the stages of life we had identified on our work sheet last class.
·      Next, we worked on side 1 of our personal symbol ‘Mini Inquiry’ assignment sheet.
·      We will continue next class.
Day 3 we:

·      Viewed the video ‘Soar’ 'Soar' and watched for general enjoyment then we will looked at it for sequencing.
o   Teamed up and used a jigsaw method to connect sentences describing sequence of the film in what seemed to be the correct order.
o   Chose best fitting transitional words to connect these sentences and make them into compound sentences.
o    Considered the types of categories of linking words that best fit each situation. (time,contrast, cause etc.)
o   Placed our work on the board and discussed.
·      Using some of these ideas re: compound sentences we began writing our personal symbol paragraphs . Drafts due next block. Think joining words, adjectives, expressive language.
